G.I. SHUTTERBUG

Did you know that some U.S. soldiers in combat—heavy combat?—are photographers hired by the army to document what they see? And not just for propaganda, but for prosperity?

I didn’t. Not until I met a really nice curator who works at the new MOSS on Melrose in Los Angeles, named Dane Jensen. He told me about this exhibit he put together called Eye of the Storm: War Through the Lens of American Combat Photographers.

Not only are these brave men and women shooting—in between, shooting— in Iraq, but they’ve taken beautiful shots of horrific, sad and cosmically unfair situations.

The exhibit is going on at Reform Gallery at 816 N. La Cienega Blvd between Melrose and Santa Monica. If you are in town, definitely check it out.
