How does your lion greet you, after a year apart?
Hopefully with the jaw-dropping surprise and joy as Christian the Lion greeted his two owners after they sent him to Africa to live. Click on the video to see the utter happiness he feels toward his human friends.
The clip is from a doc made in the early 1970s called Christian the Lion at World’s End. Here’s some of the super fascinating backstory:
…Separated from his parents at a very young age, the few-weeks-old baby lion was put up for sale in a London department store. Two men, Anthony Bourke and John Rendall scraped together money to buy the little guy. They named him Christian. Tony and John dedicated themselves to giving Christian the best life possible, and the bond that developed between them is something you just wouldn’t ever imagine happening. But as the cat grew, he needed more and more space than Tony and John could provide. Thanks to a chance meeting with Bill Travers (who had starred in the movie Born Free), they decided to send Christian to Africa to live as a wild lion.
Bill Travers contacted George Adamson (the man behind Born Free) to take the cutie pie in and together they came up with the idea of making a documentary movie of it all, to fund the project….
